The Green Kind Community's 1st Ever Garden Project

The Green Kind Community's 1st Ever Community Project entailed building two organic vegetable community gardens in Casselberry, Florida.

Project's Mission was tri-fold:
1. Gather to build garden(s) organically for healthy food and instruction in food sustainability.

2. Seek to provide and cultivate community as we work together towards a common goal.

3. We are promoting eating with the seasons.

The program had 11 people enrolled (including children who garden for FREE).
We had one Master Community Gardener (Trina); she joined us for the first hour and half for instruction and guidance.

A total of 15 people were involved on November 13, 2010 early morning.
It was a BLAST!!

Here are a couple more samples of pictures from the experience. More to come!

Enjoy,

Green Kind

If you are interested in being apart of this project in the future or other GKC (Green Kind Community) projects, please email us or call at (www.thegreenkindcommunity@gmail.com OR 321-331-1072). It is a great community experience.

A Green Read

A Quick Read about Sustainable living.

Practical, Simple, and Testimonial style of writing.
The author also gives encouragement, even in the small details of our efforts.

Two quotes I really like so far in the beginning chapter:

"We live at a unique time in human history. Never before have we had so much freedom to make positive choices about our lives. We can choose where we live, what we eat, what we buy and even what we think and believe. More than any time in history, we have the luxury of thinking through the downstream implications of our actions and changing our behaviors based on our values. This consciousness of cause and effect between our lifestyles-even our diets- and the plant's health is the driving force behind the sustainability movement. " (page 22)

AND

"We're not marching into the streets armed and angry. Instead, we are living our lives differently: quietly taking our trash to recycling centers, buying organic produce, paying a little extra for fair-trade coffee, driving more fuel-efficient cars, such as hybrids, and refusing to buy overpackaged goods." (page 25)

I end with this quote from page 26, "By starting with practical actions we are bringing a new consciousness to our way of living; this revolution is spreading swiftly."

What are your thoughts?

Edible Orlando

Edible Orlando

I got the opportunity tonight to attend a community meeting with Simple Living Institute to discuss a great project that is in the works. While at this meeting I got to meet the producer and one of the editors for Edible Orlando Magazine. She also gave all of us a free copy of the first issue released just recently.

I am so excited to read my copy over the next few days.
There is much to be said for those who labor for the better health of people they have never met.

Find out where you can pick up a copy by clicking the link below.

Another Resource!

Found this neat little website while trying to research what to use for organic weed killer.

Check it out when you have a chance. Seems like a great little resource. Just click on the picture.

Even a section on raising chickens and green energy! Both avenues the Green Kind Community are researching to implement in the near future.

Enjoy!

Eggs! could be just the beginning

Check out a video on the latest 550 Billion eggs recall.
This is crazy - but maybe now more of the skeptics of Food, Inc. and other food documentaries will be a little more persuaded?

Local Allergy Remedy

A friend's account of her battle with allergies & weight gain and the success she found in natural means, specifically in local Honey. Here is a snippet:

"
I have a shout out to the Winter Park Honey Man! Winterparkhoney.com I am not sure if he is at the Monday Night Market, but he is at the Saturday Winter Park Farmer's Market and he is THE MAN for local honey!

I have allergies. CHRONIC allergies that can get so bad the pain is indistinguishable from my migraines. Recently I have discovered that it is all of the steroids and over the counter allergy medicines that have been causing my body to "hold on" to my weight when I have tried weight watchers and other ways to lose it. (Among other awful things.) And I have been using my netti pot and doing other holistic things, the allergies just weren't going away- and the doctors were saying "More medicine!""

To read her full comment and more details see the comment section on the last post "Audubon Market".

Thank you Mandy for sharing!
